I probably heard the three words that my son said to me today a thousand times. I don't know why they affected me in the way they did today but they did.
I was dropping Zach off at school this morning and he said "Bye Dad" as he shut the car door. I drove off and the first word hit me, Dad. Yes I was Dad and a warm feeling of love and pride hit me. I was his Dad and he is my Son. A word I share with so many other men but uniquely only I possess.
Later that day when I picked him up from school I took him to his Mother's he said the other two words. "Love You Dad". Yeah, the word Dad took on a new meaning. I don't have to say anymore, as any parent knows how I felt when I heard those words. He probably didn't realize or think twice what he had said. Yesterday or last week it may have been said and I didn't give it a second thought. But for some reason today it meant the world to me.
Thanks, and Love You Too, Son.
